While studying Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London, he also undertook a BSc in Biochemistry passing with first class honours.
He trained in ear nose and throat surgery at several major teaching hospitals in London including the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. He went on to super-specialist training in surgery of the ear and skull base at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Further fellowship training followed at the House Institute in Los Angeles, USA, Gentofte Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, USA.
Mr. Lloyd has a Master of Philosophy in Neurosciences from St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge. His research investigated changes in symptoms, hearing and quality of life for patients with acoustic neuromas.
He runs regular clinics for adults and children, and his specialist practice in disorders of the ear, skull base and balance problems draws in patients from around the UK.
He holds a National Health Service post as Consultant Otolaryngologist at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital.
Mr Lloyd is part of the Manchester Cochlear Implant Group that specializes in restoring hearing to babies, older children and adults who are profoundly deaf. He is also part of the Manchester Skull Base Team. This is the largest unit of its type in the UK, dealing with problems around the base of skull, including acoustic neuromas, glomus tumours and other rare diseases. He also deals with other complex problems of the ear including dizziness and is one of the founding members of the Manchester Balance Clinic.
Team work is at the core of Mr Lloyd’s practice and he works with a very experienced team of surgeons and allied health professionals. Together with his warm, personal approach, this enables him to provide the highest quality service for his patients.
He has published over twenty five papers in the medical literature in his areas of expertise as well as authoring a number of book chapters. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally. He also has an interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Mr. Lloyd is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology, the British Skull Base Society and the British Cochlear Implant Group.
He is also part of the British Nepal Otology Service, a charity that funds a team of ear surgeons and nurses to travel to Nepal and help treat diseases of the ear.
